What are the applications of the fact that light travels in a straight line?

Shadows & Eclipse

Shadows are formed because light travels in straight lines. When light shines on an object, some rays of light are blocked by the object while other rays continue to travel in straight lines. The area behind the object which receives no light become dark. this area is called shadow.

An eclipse of the sun occurs when the moon comes between the Sun and the Earth. The moon blocks the light from the Sun and a shadow forms on the Earth.
